INDIAN TOWNSHIP – Ray Matthew Sockabasin, 18, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 4, 2013, as a result of an automobile accident. Ray was born June 26, 1995, in Bangor.
He was a student at Cobscook Community Learning Center and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler and dirt bike, snowmobiling, mudding, collecting unique rocks and taking care of animals. Ray had aspirations to follow his father’s footsteps and work in forestry.
Surviving is his parents, Raphael R. Sockabasin and Sandra Melanson of Indian Township; his biological mother, Micheal Phelps of Baileyville; three sisters, Samantha, Amanda and Laura; brother, Raphael A.; special uncle, Jason; grandparents and great-grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Ray will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visiting hours will begin noon Sunday, July 7, until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at his parents’ home, 508 Peter Dana Point Road, Indian Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at St. Ann Church, Peter Dana Point, by Father Rob Lupo. Burial will be afterward at Tribal Cemetery.
