BANGOR, Maine — An Orono man indicted last week by the Penobscot County grand jury on 94 sex charges after police say he sexually abused a young male relative for more than eight years won’t be arraigned until next month.

Wyatt Tripp, 39, was charged with 36 counts of gross sexual assault, 48 counts of unlawful sexual contact and 10 counts of sexual abuse of a minor. He was expected to enter a plea to charges against him but a new August court date was scheduled, a Penobscot County Jail official said.

Tripp has been at the jail since April 10, unable to make bail set at $20,000 cash.

He is accused of spending years sexually assaulting a boy related to him, Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford said shortly after he was indicted.

The boy was 8 or 9 when the abuse began and 16 or 17 when it was reported, she said.

The sexual assaults started around October 2004 and continued until April of this year, Clifford said. She declined to say how Tripp and the victim are related.

If convicted, Tripp faces up to 30 years in prison on the most serious charge of gross sexual assault.
