Seven-run fifth carries Millinocket by Katahdin Valley

PATTEN — Millinocket scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to break open the game en route to a 15-4 victory in five innings over Katahdin Valley during a District 3 Little League baseball all-star game for ages 11-12 Monday.

For Millinocket, Riley Dionne pitched all five innings and was steady, striking out five, scattering four hits, and hitting two batters. Dionne led the offensive attack, with a triple, two RBI’s, and three runs scored. Mark Dibona added two doubles and two RBI, Andrew Daigle had a double and two RBI, while Kaleb York pitched in with a single and an RBI.

For Katahdin Valley, Jayden Burpee started and pitched three innings, striking out eight, walking two, and gave up four hits.On offense, Caleb Giles had a double and two RBI, Brett Williams and Blake Howes each hit an RBI single, and Owen Sinclair had a single.

Bangor East 6, Hermon 1

At Taylor Field in Bangor, Noah Missbrenner pitched a complete game three-hitter, with eight strikeouts, to propel Bangor East to victory.

Nick Crichton notched a two-run single for the winners and Josh Sherwood doubled.

Alex Applebee singled twice for Hermon.

District 1, 9-10

Ellsworth 9, Machias 2

At Machias, pitcher Jackson Curtis struck out 15 and aided his own cause with two triples and a double to help Ellsworth defeat Machias.

Chase Johnson chipped in with a double for the winners and Hunter Curtis singled.

Cecil Gray singled for Machias.

Bucksport 11, Acadians 10

At Bar Harbor, Ty Giberson’s RBI triple and Brady Findlay’s run-scoring single in the top of the sixth gave Bucksport the winning edge.

The Acadians responded with Jack Dacorte’s RBI double in the sixth, but Ryan Howard struck out the final two batters, with the bases loaded, to secure teh win.

Bucksport is now 1-0 and the Acadians are 1-1.

Giberson also scored three runs for Bucksport and singled.

Jesse MacDonald added an RBI single for the Acadians while Sam Mitchell doubled and Brady Renault singled and scored twice.

At Orrington, Zack Dill recorded a no-hitter to give Old Town the victory.

Casey Downs singled twice for the winners and Dill and Sam Magoon each added a double..

The Hermon vs. Holbrook game will resume at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

District 3, 11-12

Lincoln 33, Houlton 13

At Lincoln, Lincoln outslugged Houlton 33-13 to advance to the championship round of the District 3 ages 11-12 Little League all-star softball tourney.

Lincoln (2-1) will face undefeated Hermon (2-0) on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Mattanawcook Academy. Should Lincoln win, a winner-take-all championship game would take place Wednesday night in Lincoln, with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Rockland.

Haley McLaughlin led Lincoln with four singles and seven RBIs, while Emily Tolman hit four singles and drove in five runs, Whitney Taylor singled three times and drove in five runs, Kortney McKechnie singled three times and drove in three runs and Kim Voisine singled twice, doubled and drove in a run.

For 1-2 Houlton, Abbie Worthley singled twice and drove in a run, while Molly Schneider and Sam Condon each scored two runs and stole two bases.
