The first event set for the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor will involve some familiar faces for the Bangor region. The Harlem Globetrotters are set to bring their comedic basketball skills to the arena on Sept. 20 and 21.

“You’re going to see some of the stuff you’ve always seen, like great family fun and action with the crowd,” said Big Easy Lofton, a Globetrotters showman who has played on the team for nine years. “Every year is a little different, a different storyline. I don’t want to give it away, but you’ll be in for a treat.”

“The Harlem Globetrotters have been a staple event in this community for years now, and we’re excited to have them be a part of the Cross Insurance Center’s grand opening events,” said Global Spectrum’s Mike Dyer, General Manager of the Cross Insurance Center.

The Globetrotters were last in Bangor back in March of this year, and Lofton is excited to come back to the Queen City – and to inaugurate the Cross Center.

“[Bangor has got] good people, good food. I can’t wait to be back in September, when the weather is nice,” said Lofton, who said he has been to every state and 71 countries with the Globetrotters. “We love opening a new arena. We opened the new one in Brooklyn, and one in Maryland. It’s a joy. Who else would be the first to play at a new place but the Globetrotters?”

The announcement for the initial lineup of events at the new arena has been hotly anticipated, ever since work began on the new facility back in August 2011. Major construction was completed in April of this year, with the “soft opening” event – Bangor High School’s graduation ceremonies – held in early June. The Globetrotters games will kick off a fall and winter of programming, with more events and artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets to both games in Bangor start at $23 and are available beginning Wednesday, July 3 at 10 a.m. via www.harlemglobetrotters.com, www.ticketmaster.com, the New Cross Insurance Center box office, or by phone at 800-745-3000.
