National Weather Service issues severe weather, flood warnings for parts of Maine

BANGOR, Maine — The National Weather Service office in Caribou has issued severe weather warnings and advisories Saturday evening for much of the state.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of Waldo, Somerset and extreme northeastern Kennebec counties. Severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph were moving through the region shortly after 6:30 p.m.

In addition, a flood advisory is in effect until 7:30 p.m. for parts of Oxford and Franklin counties, where a line of thunderstorms were producing heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches per minute.

A flood warning remains in effect in Aroostook, Piscataquis and Somerset counties until 8:30 p.m., the NWS reported.
