WATERVILLE, Maine — Two intoxicated people were arrested early Saturday morning after refusing to leave the area near a restaurant, according to police.

Shawn Bourgeois, 23, of Winslow and Tina Nelson, 37, of Waterville are both facing a failure to disperse charge while Nelson is also accused of refusing to submit to arrest, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

The trouble started shortly after 1 a.m. on Lower Main Street when a group of intoxicated people were congregating in front of a restaurant that is popular after bars shut down for the night, Rumsey said.

The group was getting loud and a few fights had broken out, the deputy chief said, and in attempt to get the crowd to disperse, Bourgeois refused to leave.

After police took him into custody, Nelson grew upset that Bourgeois was being arrested although Rumsey believes the pair don’t know one another.

Nelson was uncooperative with arresting officers, adding the refusing to submit to arrest charge, the deputy chief said.

Both suspects were taken to Kennebec County Jail and released on bail.
