HOLDEN, Maine — Police arrested a Dedham man accused of driving under the influence on Sunday evening after being tipped off by a motorist at a gas station.

Stephen Hamilton, 66, apparently bumped into gas-pumping customer’s vehicle at the Leadbetter’s on Route 1A shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, according to Holden police Chief Gene Worcester.

The customer thought Hamilton reeked of alcohol and called police, Worcester said.

Officer Chris Greeley wound up stopping Hamilton’s vehicle near the Dedham town line, and noticed his eyes were glassy and red and his speech was slurred.

Hamilton was arrested and brought to Penobscot County Jail and later released.
