BANGOR – Edith Mae MacDonald, 99, died peacefully June 23, 2013, with loved ones by her side. She was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Bangor, daughter of Hollis and Alice (McAree) Philbrook.
Edith attended Bangor schools and married Kenneth Kilby. They resided in Bangor and raised two children, William and Gloria until Kenneth’s death in 1935. Edith remained in Bangor and worked as a home health aide for many years until she met and married Vincent MacDonald. Edith was a devote Catholic and loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia; four brothers, Hollis, Howard, Norman and Eugene; husband, Kenneth Kilby; son, William Kilby; daughter, Gloria Kilby Girouard; and husband, Vincent MacDonald. Surviving is six grandchildren, Daniel and William Girouard, Brian and Michael Kilby, and Patricia Burke and Gloria Walker; eight great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Jeanne Murphy, and Muriel and husband, Maynard Elkins; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and one sister-in-law, Mary Philbrook. Edith will be sadly missed by all that knew her and especially her dog, Suzie. The family will like to thank the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care Edith received while there.
A memorial gathering will be held 1-3 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Pine Grove Crematorium and Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond St., Bangor, ME 04401.Those who wish to remember Edith in a special way, may send flowers to Pine Grove Crematorium and Remembrance Center, Bangor, for the day of gathering.
