Hermon all-stars capture District 3 9-10 softball title

LINCOLN, Maine — Hermon’s ages 9-10 softball all-stars won three games in two days to claim the District 3 championship, capped by a 27-8 win over the Bronco Little League on Sunday.

Hermon (3-1) advances to the state tournament, which starts July 20 at the Deering Little League complex in Portland.

In Sunday’s championship game, Hermon pitcher Mia Foley struck out seven in four innings in the circle and also hit four singles and drove in two runs.

Hermon received offensive contributions from Rachel Balmas (two singles, double, three RBIs), Makaila Beck (two singles, three RBIs), Faith Coombs (two singles, two RBIs) Charlotte Caron and Allison Rush (two singles and RBI each).

For Bronco of Hampden-Newburgh-Winterport, Grace Rishton and Camryn Neal each singled and drove in a run, while Abby Lyons and Sara Economy each drove in a run.

In Saturday’s first game, Hermon scored in every inning to hold off Lincoln and advance to the championship round.

Bailee Doyle led Hermon with three singles, a double and two RBIs; Leah Thibeault-Myatt singled twice and drove in two runs; and Balmas singled twice and drove in a run. Caron struck out nine to earn the complete-game pitching win.

For 0-2 Lincoln, Leine McKechnie doubled twice, singled and drove in a run, Emily Tilton singled twice and drove in a run and Tenley Hartford singled and drove in two runs.

In Saturday’s second game, Hermon scored 11 runs in the second inning to break the game open.

Balmas led Hermon with three singles, a double and three RBIs; Beck doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs; Doyle singled three times and drove in four runs; Rush singled three times and drove in two runs; and Coombs singled twice and drove in a run.

For Bronco, Rishton doubled, singled and drove in three runs and Lyons singled and drove in a run.
