Alexander pitches Brewer past Motor City

BANGOR, Maine — Kyle Alexander pitched a four-hit shutout and Jeff Weeks knocked in two runs Monday night to lead the Brewer Falcons to a 4-0 Zone 1 American Legion baseball victory over Motor City at Husson University’s Winkin Complex.

Brewer (2-4) got on the board with three runs in the top of the first inning. Tony Bissell singled, Logan Rogerson drew a walk followed by Weeks’ RBI single. Weeks took second on the throw to the plate.

Nick Moore added an RBI sacrifice fly and Matt Morrow drove in Weeks with a single. Weeks cranked an RBI triple in the seventh inning to round out the scoring for the Falcons. Bissell had three singles and two runs scored in the contest.

Motor City (2-4) was led by Shawn Curran and Cody Collins, each of whom doubled.

Hampden 6, Trenton 4

At Hampden, Tristan Gardner worked three inning of hitless relief and helped the offense with a double, a single and an RBI to lead the Riverdogs to victory.

Justin Kasprzak and Shawn Smith each rapped a two-run double for 6-0 Hampden.

Hank Vinall led Trenton with two singles and two RBIs while Mitch Domagala posted two singles and an RBI for the Acadians.

Bangor 2, Penquis 1

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Sam Stanhope’s sacrifice fly scored Andrew Hillier in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Comrades to victory.

Hillier pitched a scoreless eighth in relief of Jordan Treadwell to earn the win. Treadwell struck out seven and walked three.

Caleb Smith was the tough-luck loser for Penquis, scattering nine hits while striking out four and walking three.

The Navigators took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dylan Graffam singled home Aaron Smestal.

Bangor equalized in the fifth. Stanhope doubled, advanced on Kyle Stevenson’s sacrifice bunt and score on Trevor DeLaite’s single.

In the eighth, Hillier singled, moved up on Sam Huston’s sacrifice and advanced on a Hunter Boyce single. Curtis Worcester was walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Stanhope.
