Leola Mae (York) Eldridge

BREWER – Leola Mae (York) Eldridge, 83, passed away peacefully June 21, 2013, at home. She was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Frankfort, daughter of Florian York and Alice (Cuddy) York.
Leola attended local schools and graduated from Winterport High School. She loved to tell her sons that she walked from her home in Frankfort to the neighboring town of Winterport everyday for school, “and it was uphill, both ways!” Leola worked as a technician for GTE Sylvania for 22 years, until her retirement. On Nov. 30, 1952, Leola married her husband, Linwood B. Eldridge. They celebrated 60 years together before his passing last year. Leola lived for her family and her grandchildren were her greatest pride in life. She loved spending time with them, taking part in their activities, hearing about everything they did and the many sleepovers they had at Grammie’s. She enjoyed camping and making extra-large afghans.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leola was predeceased by her son, Dale Eldridge; brother, Harley York; and sister, Ada Kangas. She is survived by five sons, Cecil Eldridge of Brewer, Larry Eldridge of Carmel, Robert Eldridge and wife, Cheryl, of Hermon, Mark Eldridge and fiancée, Lynn, of Millinocket, and Eric Eldridge and wife, Denise, of Hermon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Beacon Hospice for their care and support of both Linwood and Leola.
Services will be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Leola in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 304 Hancock St., Suite 3A, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
