BANGOR – Dorothy “Dottie” Dix Stillwell Harris, died peacefully Friday, June 21, 2013 at a Bangor nursing home. Dottie was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Trenton, N.J.
She married her brother Leo’s shipmate, Walter J. Harris on Pearl Harbor Day in 1941. Walter was beginning a U.S. Navy career, so Dottie immediately became a Navy wife and followed Walter to different ports on both coasts of the United States for many years. The couple settled permanently in Hanover, Mass., in 1961. In Hanover, Dottie managed a Top Value Stamp store and was a sales associate at Almy’s Department store. Dottie and Walter moved to Sunbury Village, Bangor, in 2004. She moved to Sylvia Ross Home, Bangor, in March of 2013.
Dottie was predeceased by Walter, who died in 2010. She is survived by her children, Walter J. Harris Jr. and wife, Lianne, and Betty Jean Miller and husband, Joseph; sister, Lila Davis; niece, Doris Reynolds; grandchildren, Greg Miller and wife, Gaylen, Coralia Miller and husband, Johnny Robinson, Alisa Trees and partner, Ly Burns, and Jason Harris and wife, Lori Frank; and great-grandchildren, Riley Miller and Clara Jean Robinson. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Janice Plourde and Thelma Chandler.
No memorial service is planned. Donations may be made in her memory to Acadia Hospital, P.O. Box 422, Bangor, ME 04402.
