Mabel Jordan

CHESTER – Mabel Jordan, 85, wife of the late Roland Jordan Sr., died June 19, 2013, at a Lincoln health care facility. She was born July 8, 1927, in Chester, daughter of Harry and Minnie (Ireland) Whitney.

Mabel was a published author of two books, the first of which can be found in the National Archives in Washington, D.C., under folklore. She loved visiting with family and friends and playing games. She was a past member of Advent Christian Church, Dover, N.H., and enjoyed attending Community Evangel Temple, Lincoln. Mabel loved helping others through their trials. She wanted to thank all the workers who helped take her of her over the years.

She is survived by three sons, Sterling Jordan and Sheila of Chester, Roland Jordan Jr. of Lincoln and Douglas Jordan and Janet of Tennessee; two brothers, Harlan Whitney and Robert Whitney; sister, Erma Tash; five grandchildren, Chandy, Darcy, Peter, Sandy and Amy; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Roland Sr., she was predeceased by nine siblings, Perley Whitney, Harriet Fahey, Roscoe Whitney, Irene Jordan, Charles Whitney, Curtis Whitney, Nonie McComb, Hollis Whitney and Donald Whitney.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Bill Chesley officiating. Interment will be at South Chester Cemetery. Those who wish may donate to Alzheimer’s Association or Arthritis Foundation. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
