EDDINGTON, Maine — Residents at the March annual town meeting approved a partial budget because the town is aligning its fiscal year with the state’s, and two meetings are planned for next week to approve another partial budget, Town Manager Russell Smith said Thursday.

Russell said he’s been out on sick leave so the originally planned mid-June annual town meeting was postponed until July 30. That means town leaders have to hold a special meeting to allocate funds to carry the town through until the late July meeting, which is when the fiscal year 2013-14 budget will be presented and voted on by the public, he said.

Town leaders will host a public hearing on the two-month partial budget at 6 p.m. Tuesday. A special selectmen’s meeting to vote on the partial budget will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.

“There will be only one item on the agenda,” the town manager said.

The town has operated on a Feb. 1 to Jan. 31 fiscal year for years and has been talking for “quite some time” about changing to align with the state’s fiscal year that runs July 1 to June 30, Smith said.
