JONESBORO, Maine — Alcohol and speed were apparent factors in an early-morning fatal accident here on Wednesday, police say.

Daniel Snowdeal, 48, of Jonesboro, was driving south on Route 1A in Jonesboro, near the Whitneyville line, around 3 a.m. when he lost control of his 2003 Hyundai Elantra, crossed the yellow line and struck a utility pole.

Snowdeal’s vehicle came to rest on its roof, according to a Maine State Police news release. The driver “sustained severe trauma in the crash and was dead at the scene” and “the vehicle was demolished,” wrote Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

No further information, such as how speed and alcohol were identified as factors in the single-vehicle crash, was immediately available.
