Zechariah Palmeter earned the rank of Eagle Scout on March 4, as a member of Boy Scout Troop 478 of Orono. Zac has held the offices of patrol leader, senior patrol leader for two consecutive years, and is currently a junior assistant scoutmaster. Zac’s Eagle project consisted of building a new bridge and trail in the Orono Land Trust. The planning stage required submitting a proposal to the Department of Environmental Protection, obtaining permission to build from the town of Orono and obtaining the materials for the bridge. He also coordinated volunteer workers to assist with the construction. More than 19 people helped out including nine Scouts, four BSA registered adults and other friends. It took Zac approximately 20 hours of planning and preparation, and the team a total of 140 hours of construction to complete a 6 foot by 24 foot bridge with 133 yards of trail. Zac officially received his Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor ceremony on June 16 at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
