Brewer engineering firm acquires environmental consulting business

BREWER, Maine — CES Inc., an engineering firm in Brewer, has acquired Summit Environmental Consultants in Lewiston, according to a news release.

Summit, which is an environmental consulting firm with offices in Lewiston, Augusta and Bangor, will maintain operations as a subsidiary of CES in Lewiston and Augusta, while the Bangor staff will be relocated to CES’ corporate office in Brewer. Summit employs 20 people.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With this acquisition, CES will grow to 75 employees located in six communities: Augusta, Bar Harbor, Brewer, Machias, Presque Isle and Lewiston.

“The addition of Summit is our latest affirmation of our commitment to expand and improve our services to our clients,” Kevin Gendreau, marketing director for CES, said in a statement. “We are excited about the opportunities that this acquisition presents to our employees, and believe that with the added expertise of Summit employees, we have enhanced our resources, geographic reach, and depth of our staff to better accomplish the goals of our clients.”

The acquisition will grow the firm’s services to include civil engineering, environmental consulting, surveying, construction materials testing and field services.
