Norway man guilty of assault sentencing hearing continued

By Leslie H. Dixon, Sun Journal

PARIS, Maine — A Norway man found guilty of assaulting an Oxford police officer will be sentenced next month in Oxford County Superior Court, according to court documents.

Michael B. Murphy, 61, was found guilty in March of attacking Officer Zachary Bisson and refusing to submit to arrest. Murphy’s sentencing was scheduled for Friday, but was postponed to July 1.

On May 27, 2012, Bisson responded to a report of an assault at a woman’s home where Murphy was living. Bisson was attacked while placing Murphy under arrest on a charge of assault, according to a police report.

Murphy was found not guilty of that charge. He was ordered not to have any contact with her, except for returning to her house with a police officer to retrieve his belongings.
