KENNEBUNK, Maine — David Creech, one of Kennebunk High School’s two assistant principals, has been appointed as the next principal of Scarborough High School.

Creech, who was selected as the final candidate in May, was appointed to the position by the Scarborough Board during its meeting June 6. He will officially assume the position July 1.

“I’m thrilled to be getting ready to serve as principal of Scarborough High School,” Creech said, adding that it is a tremendous school with a talented, professional and welcoming staff and students. “It’s exciting, but at the same time I’ve always loved the kids here [at Kennebunk High School], the talented staff, and the great parents.”

Creech has been at KHS since 2000, when he began as a math teacher, moving on to chair the math department. He took the position of assistant principal in 2012. He was previously a math teacher at Sanford High School.

He thanked the community that has supported Kennebunk High School and RSU 21 and said the old adage that “it takes a village” is true. Creech said he lives in the community and his daughters attend the RSU 21 schools and he will continue an involvement with the district at that level.

“He has had a big role to play in the development of many students at the high school,” said Superintendent Andrew Dolloff. “He’s very well thought of as a classroom teacher. He’s smart, entertaining, engaging, he really focuses on developing appropriate and meaningful relationships with students and staff, and I think those qualities will certainly help him moving forward.”

As assistant principal, Creech served as the security director for the district, assisting all schools with planning security drills and procedures, Dolloff said. He worked against bullying, and helped to orchestrate informative community discussions, like an informational session on bath salts last year.

“He’s played a big role across the district in making the schools as safe as they can be,” Dolloff said.

RSU 21 will be advertising the assistant principal position, conducting a search within and outside of the district, Dolloff said.

“It will be a pretty straightforward transition for us. We’re not going to reorganize in any way,” Dolloff said. “It’s a position that we definitely need to fill in its current configuration so we’ll see what type of candidates we get.”

Dolloff came to RSU 21 from Scarborough, where he was high school principal from 2000 to 20006 and assistant superintendent of the district for three years.

“I think he’s a good choice,” Dolloff said of Creech. “I know both districts well and I can see why the folks in Scarborough were so pleased. I think they are looking forward to having Dave on board and getting to know him better.”

The Scarborough School District superintendent did not return requests for comment.
