AUGUSTA, Maine — Lingering rain and wet conditions have pushed the Eastern Maine high school baseball and softball championship games back another day, with all eight contests now scheduled for Thursday.
The number of sites for the games also has increased, with Mahaney Diamond and Kessock Field on the University of Maine campus in Orono added to accommodate the rescheduled Class C finals.
Thursday’s EM baseball schedule is the following: Stearns of Millinocket vs. Bucksport (Class C) at 3 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond in Orono; Winslow vs. Waterville (Class B) at 3 p.m. at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor; Oxford Hills of South Paris vs. Messalonskee of Oakland (Class A) at 5 p.m. at Morton Field in Augusta; and Bangor Christian vs. Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook (Class D) at 7 p.m. at Mansfield Stadium.
The updated schedule for the Eastern Maine softball finals Thursday is as follows: Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics vs. Penobscot Valley of Howland (Class D) at 3 p.m. at Coffin Field in Brewer; Calais vs. Bucksport (Class C) at 5 p.m. at Kessock Field in Orono; Gardiner vs. Oceanside of Rockland-Thomaston (Class B) at 7 p.m. at Coffin Field; Skowhegan vs. Bangor (Class A) at 7 p.m. at Cony High School in Augusta.
The Western Maine baseball and softball finals were on schedule as of early Wednesday afternoon, with the Classes A and B finals scheduled later in the day and the Classes C and D games set for Thursday. All WM finals are to be played at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.
The Western A baseball final matched Marshwood of South Berwick against Westbrook at 3 p.m. Wednesday, followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Class B final between Falmouth and York.
Dirigo of Dixfield is slated to face Saint Dominic of Auburn for the WM Class C baseball title at 3 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Class D game between Buckfield and Richmond at 6:30 p.m.
The Western Maine softball finals were to begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Class B clash matching Greely of Cumberland Center and Gray-New Gloucester, followed at 7 p.m. by the Class A game between Scarborough and Sanford.
On Thursday, Greenville and Richmond will meet for the Western D softball crown at 3:30 p.m., with the Class C game between Dirigo and Madison at 7 p.m.
The regional champions will advance to Saturday’s state finals.
