ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The Maine Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that a 6.5-mile section of Interstate 95 between Island Falls and Oakfield will be rebuilt to minimize frost heaves.

The project affects the northbound lanes, which will be closed from June 17 through mid-November. Northbound traffic will be detoured from I-95 exit 276 onto Route 2. There will be additional construction 1.5 miles north of the Oakfield I-95 exit requiring temporary lane closures. The Route 2 detour should not add significant time or miles for northbound motorists, according to the DOT.
