Police: Bangor man crashes car into pole, gets arrested for OUI

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A local man wound up going to jail early Sunday morning after he struck a telephone pole on Mount Hope Avenue, police said.

Josh Devereaux, 19, was intoxicated when the crash occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Devereaux was traveling on Dartmouth Street when he lost control of his vehicle at the Mount Hope Avenue intersection and struck a telephone pole, the sergeant said.

Officer Richard Polk believed that Devereaux was under the influence after speaking with him at the scene, and after he failed field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence.

The impact of the crash destroyed Devereaux’s Ford Fusion, while the utility pole split in two but did not collapse, Edwards said.
