Suicide likely in Frenchville fire

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

FRENCHVILLE, Maine — A 52-year-old Frenchville man died Monday in a fire at his home that investigators believe he set.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Monday afternoon that Kenneth Clavet died in his home at 1 Forest Ave. when a fire broke out around 10 a.m. McCausland said that investigators from the state fire marshal’s office found several points of origin of the fire that damaged Clavet’s ranch-style dwelling.

He was living alone and left several suicide notes, McCausland reported.

Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office and state police were still at the scene Monday afternoon. Members of the Frenchville Fire Department fought the fire.
