PORTLAND, Maine — Ryan Rebar of Foxcroft Academy and Jordan Morrow of Stearns High School in Millinocket are among seven finalists for the Dr. John Winkin “Mr. Baseball” Award presented annually to the top senior high school player in the state.

Rebar, a pitcher-shortstop, led Foxcroft to the 2012 Eastern Maine Class B championship as a junior and had a 15-3 record this spring that produced a trip back to the regional semifinals. He was named the Penobscot Valley Conference Class B player and pitcher of the year.

Morrow, a pitcher-infielder, has helped lead Stearns to a 15-2 record, the No. 1 seed in Eastern Maine Class C and a berth in Monday’s regional semifinals against Orono. Morrow has been named the PVC Class C player of the year.

Other finalists for the Mr. Baseball award are Jordan Croteau, a catcher from Oxford Hills of South Paris; Zach LaChance, a pitcher-infielder from Cony of Augusta; Tom Fortier, a pitcher-outfielder from Falmouth; Jimmy Theriault, a pitcher-outfielder from Saint Dominic of Auburn; and Andrew Butler, a pitcher-first baseman-shortstop from Waynflete of Portland.

The winner will be announced just before the first pitch of the Maine Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for Friday, June 21, at Mahaney Diamond on the University of Maine campus in Orono. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

All seven finalists will compete in that game, as well as in the Maine-New Hampshire Senior All-Star Game to be held at noon on Monday, June 17, at the University of Southern Maine’s campus in Gorham.

Others on the Maine roster are pitchers Greg Duff of Bangor, Jonah Normandeau of Greely of Cumberland Center, Evan Pelkey of John Bapst of Bangor, Jeff Weeks of Brewer, Ryan Riordan of Oak Hill of Wales and Jeff Gelinas of Thornton Academy of Saco; catcher Matt Brenner of Marshwood of Eliot; infielders Anthony Capuano of Bangor, Max McCoomb of Marshwood and Matt Palmer of Hampden Academy; and outfielders Gabe Smith of Winslow, Casey Jordan of Dexter and Shawn Curran of John Bapst.

Also scheduled under the auspices of the Maine Baseball Coaches Association is the annual Maine Underclass Baseball Showcase Game slated for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish. That game will feature 46 of the top freshman, sophomore and junior players from around the state this spring.
