Rain postpones several high school playoff games


Saturday’s rainy weather has forced postponement of several games in the Maine Principals’ Association high school baseball and softball regional semifinals.

In the Eastern Maine baseball ranks, the Class C games have both been postponed until Monday. Top-seeded Stearns (15-2) will entertain No. 5 Orono (9-8) at 4 p.m. Second-seeded Bucksport (15-2) now awaits No. 6 Dexter (12-6) for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

In Class D, both games were pushed back until Monday at 3:30. Third seed Wisdom of St. Agatha (13-2) will play No. 2 Bangor Christian (16-1) at Husson University in Bangor and No. 9 Katahdin of Stacyville (8-8) will visit Dyer Brook to play No. 4 Southern Aroostook (12-3).

At least four EM softball games also have been moved to Monday because of the weather. In Class B, No. 3 Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston (16-1) visits No. 2 Old Town (16-1) at 4 p.m.

In Class C, top-ranked Calais (17-0) entertains No. 5 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (15-2) in a 4 p.m. clash. The Class D semifinal sending No. 11 Woodland (9-9) to No. 2 Penobscot Valley of Howland (16-1) has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m as has the other D semi sending No. 4 Katahdin (12-3) to Limestone to play top-seeded Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics (16-0).

The Western Maine Class C game between No. 1 Madison (17-0) and No. 5 Winthrop (10-6), will be played Monday at 3 p.m. in Madison.
