Police: Portland man stabbed multiple times in Old Port

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are investigating a stabbing early Friday morning in the Wharf Street area of the Old Port in which a 22-year-old resident was seriously injured.

Despite multiple stab wounds, the victim is expected to survive, according to city spokeswoman Nicole Clegg. The victim’s name was not released.

Clegg said the assault occurred in the area between Mark’s Place on Fore Street and Wharf Street.

The injured man was found by city police officers around 1:30 a.m. on Wharf Street, and the man was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he was admitted. Further information about his medical condition was not available Friday afternoon.

Police are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed a disturbance involving the victim, who was wearing a teal colored shirt, tan shorts and dark colored sneakers. Anyone with information about the incident should call Portland Police Department detectives at 874-8533.
