BANGOR, Maine — A fight that broke out downtown early Friday ended with three people going to jail, according to police.
Officer Nick Huggins was on patrol near the corner of Main and Water Streets when he saw two men, Michael Sargent, 28, of Bangor and Gregory Collagan, 29, of Eagle Lake, fighting, according to Sgt. Wade Betters.
Huggins pulled his cruiser over and immediately called for backup. After backup officers Richard Polk and Sgt. Rob Angelo arrived, people began to disperse.
As Huggins questioned Sargent and Collagan, another man, Cristofer Lane, 27, of Bangor, started to walk away from the scene and bolted from Angelo when the sergeant attempted to question him, according to Betters.
Lane led Angelo and Huggins on a brief foot pursuit that ended near the Charles Inn, Betters said. Although Lane provided the officers his real name, he gave them a fake date of birth, the sergeant said.
The officers wound up finding Lane’s wallet on the street, which he had dropped during the foot pursuit, Betters said. He was taken into custody and charged with refusing to submit to arrest and failure to provide a correct name, the sergeant said.
Sargent and Collagan were also arrested, each charged with disorderly conduct, Betters said. All three suspects remained at the Penobscot County Jail Friday afternoon.
