ROCHESTER, N.H. — The final pretrial conference has been scheduled for the man accused of impregnating a girl who was too young to give consent.
Justin Sanchez, 22, who is currently being held at Strafford County jail, was indicted this spring on a felonious sexual assault charge, for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl in 2011 and impregnating her.
During Tuesday’s preliminary pretrial conference at Strafford County Superior Court, a final pretrial conference for Sanchez has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 22.
Aug. 22 is also the deadline for Sanchez to enter a notice of intent to plead guilty, according to court documents.
Rochester police say they arrested Sanchez in December 2012, after a tip came from Sanford, Maine, police. Sanchez, formerly of Sanford, is now listed in court documents as a Boston resident.
Police Capt. Paul Toussaint previously told Foster’s that the alleged victim was too young to give consent to sexual acts; therefore, Sanchez was charged with felonious sexual assault, in the category of statutory rape. He said that force is not believed to have been used during the alleged offense.
Toussaint also said that the alleged sexual assault, which police say occurred at Norway Plains Road, led to the birth of a child.
Sanchez is currently being held on $10,000 cash bail at the Strafford County House of Corrections. He is prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim, who is now 15 years old, and a male child, who is now 1 year old.
If Sanchez is convicted of the felonious sexual assault charge, he could face up to 3½ to 7 years in prison and a $4,000 fine.
