Fire destroys two-story rental house in Embden

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

EMBDEN, Maine — A two-story house in Somerset County was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

Anson Fire Chief Jeremy Manzer said crews were dispatched to the scene on Eames Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. The fire was spreading toward nearby woods when crews from Madison, Anson and Solon arrived.

Manzer said the fire started in a camper that was parked next to the house. The camper and the house were both demolished.

“The wind blew fire right onto the house,” the chief said.

Manzer said the couple that owns the building does have insurance, and they were renting the house out, although he was not sure exactly how many people lived there. One person was home at the time, but nobody was injured.

A cause has not been determined, and Manzer said the nature of the damage will likely prevent investigators from determining how the fire started.
