BRIDGEWATER, Maine – A Pennsylvania truck driver who lost control of his rig suffered serious back injuries in an accident on Monday.
The crash resulted in U.S. Route 1 being shut down for two hours.
Maine State Police Sgt. Brian Harris said Wednesday afternoon that the accident happened just before 5 p.m. in Bridgewater.
Bakhron Matchanov, 52, was southbound in a 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer loaded with recyclable plastic when he became distracted. He reportedly lost control when his truck tires got in the soft shoulder, rolling the truck on its side.
The vehicle, owned by Real Trucking of Illinois, was significantly damaged in the accident and was towed from the scene.
The road was shut down for approximately two hours while the truck was removed and a damaged telephone pole was replaced.
Matchanov suffered serious back injuries as a result of the crash, according to Harris. He was wearing his seat belt.
Troopers Jeff Clark and Chuck Michaud and Sgt. Chad Fuller investigated the accident.
