WATERVILLE, Maine — A domestic dispute between a 47-year-old Waterville man and his girlfriend has led to felony charges against the man, police said.

Billy Joe Bragg had fled the scene on Crawford Street prior to police arriving around 9 p.m. Friday, but he was eventually located and arrested, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

A police dog unit was used to track Bragg, and he was found hiding under a vehicle on Drummond Avenue, according to Rumsey. He was taken into custody without incident.

Bragg’s charge of domestic violence assault was elevated to a Class C felony due to the fact he has a prior conviction for the same offense, the deputy chief said. He also violated a protection order by contacting the woman, who did not require a trip to the hospital.

Bragg is also charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after allegedly threatening to kill the woman with a knife, Rumsey said.

Bragg was brought to Kennebec County Jail, where he remained Tuesday.
