Old Town man accused of assaulting family member

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

OLD TOWN, Maine — What started as a noise complaint led to an intoxicated Old Town man going to jail Monday night after he was accused of assaulting a family member, police said.

Joseph Barker, 38, was drunk and arguing with other family members at his residence when he became violent, according to Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart.

During the argument, Barker tackled a 17-year-old juvenile and left the scene, according to Smart. The juvenile was not injured.

Barker was found by police a short time later and placed under arrest.

Barker was charged with domestic violence assault and brought to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Tuesday morning.
