Old Port Festival gets underway with Sunday morning parade

PORTLAND, Maine — The Old Port Festival is the largest one-day festival of its kind in northern New England, according to Portland’s Downtown District, attracting an average of more than 30,000 people to the city’s downtown waterfront.

The 40th annual festival officially begins at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 9, with the traditional foot-powered parade down Exchange Street.

The festival features outdoor activities, including rock climbing on upper Market Street, amusement rides on Federal Street, shopping among Maine artists and crafters on Market Street and arts activities and entertainment for children in Post Office Park.

From noon to 5 p.m., an array of rock, country, Irish and acoustic music acts play at six stages throughout the Old Port. Bands and performance times are listed at portlandmaine.com.
