BREWER, Maine — Chelsea King threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out eight as the Brewer Witches defeated the Cony Rams 4-1 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship game Saturday at Coffin Field.
The win avenged Brewer’s only loss to Cony, which occurred during the regular season on Tuesday.
Brewer advanced to the KVAC final after beating Messalonskee of Oakland 8-2 and Cony of Augusta advanced after beating Skowhegan 1-0.
In the final, King helped her own cause with two singles and two RBI.
Alexa Grindle hit a solo home run for Brewer in the first inning and singled home Cassie Harvey in the second.
Cony’s Arika Brochu launched a home run to center in the third inning. Maddy Bailey doubled for Brewer in the fifth, moved to third on a ground ball and scored on an illegal pitch. Emily Gilmore singled in the seventh and scored on another King single.
In the first game, Morgan Small blasted a two-run home run for Brewer in the fifth, scoring Grindle, who had singled.
Winning pitcher Grindle helped herself out with two singles and scored two runs. Gilmore added two singles, including a bases-loaded single that scored three runs after the ball got by the left fielder.
Nikki Collier singled and scored for Messalonskee in the fourth after Brewer throwing errors on a bunt. Kristie Prelgovisk added a solo homer in the seventh.
