Topsham police looking for two males who allegedly broke into woman’s home

TOPSHAM, Maine — Topsham police are still looking for two male subjects an older woman found in her home early this morning.

Lt. Fred Dunn said officers Michael Laurence and Bruce Swanson were called to a home on Bridge Street at 2:53 a.m. after a woman, apparently awoken by noise, entered the main living area of her home and saw two subjects, and “when she confronted them, they fled the residence in an unknown direction,” Dunn said.

Cpl. Ian Alexander from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department responded with canine Brix to track the suspects whom it seems may have crossed into Brunswick over the Swinging Bridge, Dunn said. A sheriff’s deputy and the Brunswick Police Department also assisted in the search for the suspects, who were described as of slim build and 6 feet or a little taller, wearing black hoodies. Police were not able to locate them, however.

Dunn said the woman was not injured and while some items were handled, it appears the unwanted visitors didn’t have time to take anything.

Dunn said there have been other break-ins in the Bridge Street area, most during the day when no one is home, so police can’t say they were related to this morning’s incident.

The woman whose home was broken into this morning, however, reported another home burglary to police on May 15 at around 9:30 a.m. Dunn said the woman apparently was sleeping and someone forced their way through a window screen. She woke to find someone had taken medication and items from her wallet. Dunn said police don’t know who committed that burglary and as of late this morning had no suspects in this morning’s incident. He didn’t know if the two are related but said it is possible.
