WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville man was arrested Monday evening by local police officials on a warrant out of New York state, police said.
Gregory Martin, 34, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police around 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.
The driver was not wearing her seat belt, which initiated Officer Kyle McDonald’s traffic stop, Rumsey said, and when Martin was questioned, he reportedly lied to the officer about his real name.
McDonald eventually determined the man was indeed Martin and learned of his New York warrant, Rumsey said. The deputy chief did not provide details about the warrant except that it was for a parole violation.
Martin is being held at the Kennebec County Jail on a fugitive from justice charge pending an extradition hearing, Rumsey said.
