Iceland’s president in Maine for international trade conference

Updated:

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Iceland’s president will be in South Portland on Friday to give a keynote address at Maine International Trade Day.

Olafur Ragnar Grimsson was invited to Maine by Eimskip, the Icelandic shipping company that in February named Portland its North American headquarters.

Eimskip is a major sponsor of this year’s Maine International Trade Day, which is an annual one-day conference organized by the Maine International Trade Center. This year it’s taking place at the Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland.

The event will also feature a keynote address by Dr. John Quelch, a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School and a specialist on international marketing. Following his talk will be a panel discussion on international marketing with representatives from L.L.Bean, the Maine Office of Tourism, Planet Dog, and Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers.

The Maine International Trade Center will also present awards to four organizations involved in various facets of international trade.

— EnviroLogix Inc., a biotech company in Portland, will be named Exporter of the Year.

— Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay will be named Innovator of the Year.

— TD Bank will be named Service Provider of the Year.

— Emera Inc., the Nova Scotia-based owner of Bangor Hydro Electric Co., will be named Foreign Direct Investor of the Year.
