LIMINGTON, Maine — A Waterboro man who apparently ran a stop sign was killed early Tuesday when his vehicle was struck by an oncoming SUV, police said.

Ronald Tripp, 76, was heading westbound on Doles Ridge Road when he reportedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of that road and Route 117, Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

Tripp’s vehicle then was struck by an SUV driven by Russell Hawkes, 44, of Limington, killing Tripp instantly, King said. Hawkes was not injured.

The impact caused Hawkes’ vehicle to spin and strike an SAD 6 school bus that was stopped, the chief deputy said. The bus driver, 61-year old Donna Osborne of Buxton, was preparing to turn onto Doles Ridge Road when the accident occurred.

Two children were on the bus at the time of the accident but weren’t injured, according to police.

Sheriff’s deputies are reconstructing the crash.
