FALMOUTH, Maine — A Topsham man is in critical condition after falling off his motorcycle and getting struck by a Jeep Wrangler Monday.

Adam Towers, 42, was merging onto the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth at about 11 a.m. when he passed the Jeep, “started to wobble, lost control and dumped his bike,” Maine State Trooper Douglas Cropper said Tuesday.

“He rolled around in the traveling lane and the Jeep Wrangler tried to avoid driving into him and actually ran over him,” Cropper said.

Towers, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Maine Medical Center with “road rash” and a crushed pelvis. Cropper said he underwent surgery. On Tuesday morning, a Maine Medical Center spokeswoman said he was in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep, 62-year-old Cynthia Palmieri of Oakland, was not charged.

“She was trying to avoid him in traffic,” Cropper said. “She’s lucky she didn’t hit another car and him.”
