KENNEBUNK, Maine — A Sanford woman has been charged with stealing a 4-month-old puppy from the Animal Welfare Society.

Walton, a mixed breed, was found in late April and returned to the Kennebunk shelter by Sanford Animal Control Officer Lauren Masellas. After a series of tips, Masellas was led to Jade Hussey, 27, of 19 Old Falls Road, Sanford, who was charged with felony theft.

Hussey was already in the York County Jail on a probation violation when she was charged with the theft.

Masellas said Hussey’s boyfriend, Keith Anderson, had the puppy when it was found and was charged with possession of stolen property.

Walton was stolen on April 23 and by the time he was found on April 26 and returned to the Animal Welfare Society, Masellas said he had “lost a lot of weight and was not in good shape.”

“It’s a good thing we found him when we did,” she said.
