HOULTON, Maine — LEADers Encouraging Aroostook Development and Momentum Aroostook on May 27 presented the 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Bison Pumps.

The award was presented to David Harbison Jr., owner and president, at an event at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. Harbison gave credit to his employees for their innovation and teamwork.

Bison Pumps, based in Houlton, was born out of Harbison Plumbing and Heating, which developed and manufactured the stainless steel hand pump in the late 1990s. Currently, Bison Pumps manufactures hand water pumps for both shallow and deep well applications.

The company is growing, and has experienced a 20 to 30 percent growth in sales over the last few years, according to Harbison.

“We have added new equipment for precision machining and personnel to develop almost every component in-house,” Harbison said in a statement.
