Top seeds from Lincoln Academy, Brunswick advance in high school singles tennis tourney

LEWISTON — Top seeds Jordan Frieldland of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and Maisie Silverman of Brunswick have advanced through Saturday’s Round of 48 to Monday’s Round of 16 in the state’s high school singles tennis tourney set for Monday at Bates College’s Wallach Tennis Complex.

Friedland will take on Falmouth’s Aiden McGrory while Silverman will battle Portland’s Sophie Hulbert in 9 a.m. Round of 16 matches.

Other Round of 16 boys matches include: Isaac Salas (8), Waynflete vs. Jai Aslam (9), Messalonskee; Matt Gilman (4), Cape Elizabeth vs. Josh Behrens, Kennebunk; Sam Leeman (5), Morse vs. Ben Shapiro, Waynflete at 9 a.m. as well as Peter Higgins (6), Cape Elizabeth vs. Burke Paxton (11), NYA; Patrick Ordway (3), Waynflete vs. Luke Horton, MDI; Satchel McCarthy (7), Cape Elizabeth vs. Cameron Butler, Oceanside; and Brendan McCarthy (2), Falmouth vs. Andrew LaMonica, York at 10:30 a.m.

Also competing in 9 a.m. matches in the girls Round of 16 are Shashanna Moll (8), Belfast vs. Olivia Lopes, Waterville; Tiffany Suchanek (4), Waterville vs. Abby Blakeley, Camden Hills; Julia Brogan (5), Falmouth vs. Kaitlyn Thompson (12), St. Dominic as well as Libby Voccola (6), Falmouth vs. Margot Andreasen, Portland; Colleen O’Donnell (3), Waterville vs. Ali Stankiewicz, Brunswick; Ashley Woodside (7), Hampden Academy vs. Devri Ramsey (10), Catherine McAuley; and Olivia Leavitt (2), Falmouth vs. Lena Rich, NYA at 10:30 a.m.

Winners advance to quarterfinal matches at noon and 1 p.m.

The semifinal and championship rounds follow on Wednesday at Bates College.
