Power restored quickly to areas south of Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — An abandoned osprey nest was blown onto a Bangor Hydro Electric Co. transmission line Sunday, leaving an estimated 2,200 customers without power briefly in communities south of Houlton.

Electrical service was interrupted just before noon to 2,897 homes and businesses in the towns of Island Falls, Oakfield, Patten, Sherman and Ludlow. Service to 646 customers in Ludlow and Oakfield was restored by 1:30 p.m. Power was restored to other customers affected at 2:20 p.m.

The transmission line involved is located in a low-lying, heavily wooded area, requiring a repair crews to investigate the situation on foot before addressing the problem.
