HOULTON, Maine — An estimated 2,200 Bangor Hydro Electric customers were without power at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in communities south of Houlton, but power was restored within hours.

Problems with a transmission line knocked out service just before noon to 2,897 homes and businesses in the towns of Island Falls, Oakfield, Patten, Sherman and Ludlow. Service to 646 customers in Ludlow and Oakfield was restored by 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the outage remains under investigation. As the transmission line at issue is in a heavily wooded area, crews will need to investigate on foot or on all-terrain vehicles before addressing the problem.
