FORT KENT, Maine — Former Central Aroostook of Mars Hill standout Mike McClung has agreed to attend and play basketball at the University of Maine at Fort Kent beginning this fall.

The 6-foot-7-inch forward, who will study criminal justice-public safety at UMFK, averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks per game as a senior captain during the 2011-2012 season when he was named to the Maine Sunday Telegram All-State Team, All-Aroostook County Team, Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Team, an MBR.org all-star as well as a Bangor Daily News all-tournament selection.

During his junior campaign in 2010-2011, McClung led the 22-0 Panthers to a Class D state championship. He received the William Warner Eastern Maine Tournament MVP Award and was named to the All-Aroostook County Team.

McClung was enrolled this year at Husson University in Bangor, but did not appear in any games for the Eagles.

McClung played four sports at Central Aroostook, lettering in basketball, baseball, soccer and golf.

“The Bengal basketball family is extremely excited to finally welcome Mike as a member of our fine university, community and basketball program,” said UMFK head coach Eric Werntgen. We feel Mike will flourish in Fort Kent as a student-athlete.”
