ARUNDEL, Maine — An argument over a 7-year-old girl Monday afternoon led to a York County man being placed under arrest, police said Tuesday.

A man who shares custody of his daughter with his ex-girlfriend had gone to the Pines Trailer Park on Old Alfred Road to pick up the girl along with a male friend, according to York County Chief Deputy William King.

When the father and his friend arrived, the woman refused to let the girl go with her father, leading to an argument, King said. The woman’s current boyfriend and another man, 26-year-old Ryan Forrest of Arundel, ordered the father and his friend to leave.

Upon being asked to leave, the father’s friend saw a gun tucked in Forrest’s back waistband, and fearing for the safety of his daughter, the father contacted police, King said.

Deputies arrived and questioned four adults, the girl’s mother and her boyfriend, along with Forrest and his girlfriend, King said. The 7-year-old girl and her 2-year old brother were also inside.

After about a half-hour, the girl’s mother and her boyfriend emerged from the mobile home but Forrest and the other woman refused to leave, King explained.

An hour later, Forrest emerged from the residence and he was placed under arrest, King said. His girlfriend was not charged and the two children were not injured. The concealed weapon turned out to be a BB pistol, King said.

It turned out Forrest had outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines associated with two separate burglary and theft charges, of which King did not get into specifics. More charges against Forrest in connection with Monday’s incident are expected.

Forrest was taken to the York County Jail and released on bail. His court appearance has not been scheduled.
