National Weather Service, Knox County calling all storm chasers

ROCKLAND, Maine — The National Weather Service is partnering with Knox County Emergency Management Agency to offer a SKYWARN Weather Spotter Training Course.

The course will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Knox County EMA office, 301 Park St.

Weather service forecast meteorologist Mike Cempa of the Gray Weather Forecast Office will lead the program.

Training includes: basics of thunderstorm development and fundamentals of storm structure along with identification of severe weather. SKYWARN trained spotters enhance weather service emergency weather advisories, watches and warnings through real-time observations to confirm what meteorologist see on their radar, according to a news release from Knox EMA. The training covers methods of weather detection and weather safety.
