Melvin E. Madore

VAN BUREN – Melvin E. Madore, 79, died May 19, 2013, at a Caribou hospital. He was born March 19, 1934, in Van Buren, son of Leo and Lillian (Ayotte) Madore.
He graduated from Van Buren Boys High School in 1952. He worked with former Beaulieu Dry Cleaners and owned Lebrun and Madore Cleaners for many years. He also worked at former Van Buren Community Hospital and St. John Valley Health Center for many years as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement. He served the town of Van Buren as a prior constable and volunteer firefighter. He also served two separate terms on the Van Buren town council. A veteran of the Korean War, Melvin was a member and past commander of American Legion, Post 49, Van Buren. He was a member and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus, Council 1635 and member and past faithful navigator of the 4th Degree Assembly, Van Buren. He was also a former member of Catholic Order of Forester. Melvin was an accomplished candlepin bowler with the Van Buren Bowling League, one of the best, and won many awards and tournaments.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene (St. Pierre) Madore of Van Buren; two children, Peter Madore and wife, Stacey, and Lynn McBee and husband, Danny, both of Van Buren; brother, Daniel Madore of Van Buren; two sisters, Omerine Cyr of Carmel and Jeannine Poitras of Bristol, Conn.; grandchildren, Chandler Madore and Monique Carver; and great-grandchildren, Marissa and Marlee Carver. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Della Ouellette in 2000.
Relatives and friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
