York man dies in single-vehicle crash

YORK, Maine — Authorities identified a local man who was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Route 91 on Saturday afternoon.

Timothy R. Gerald, 48, had been traveling west near Kingsbury Lane when the crash occurred, according to a press release from the York Police Department. The vehicle went off the road and into a ditch before hitting a large tree and then rolling over, according to the department’s preliminary investigation.

Personnel from York Village Fire Department, York Beach Fire Department, York Ambulance and the York Police Department went to the scene after the crash was reported just before 3 p.m. Saturday.

Route 91 was closed for about two hours after the accident.

Rescuers extricated a dog trapped in the vehicle using the Jaws of Life and took it to a veterinary hospital, according to the release.
