WALDOBORO, Maine — A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a barn and its contents on Saturday afternoon.
There were no injuries in the fire, which occurred in Donald Lee’s barn on Friendship Street in Waldoboro.
The state fire marshal will inspect the rubble on Monday, Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer said at the scene of the blaze. The fire is not considered suspicious but he said determining the cause may not be possible because of the extent of damage.
The barn, which Smeltzer estimated to be 20 feet by 30 feet, was fully ablaze when he arrived at the scene, about 3 miles from downtown.
The call to the Fire Department came in at 1:30 p.m. from a boy who was at the home on the property. The initial call came in as a shed fire but when Smeltzer arrived and saw the size of the building, he called for assistance from the neighboring Friendship Fire Department.
A Harley-Davidson motorcycle, automobile parts, tools and fishing gear in the barn were destroyed. An older car that was parked outside the barn was also destroyed.
